话说古代有位老秀才，一生穷困潦倒，好不容易盼来了科考的机会。可是，临近考试，他的女儿却突然重病，高烧不退。老秀才焦急万分，看着女儿痛苦的表情，再看看日渐逼近的考试，他心里就像揣着一块大石头，沉甸甸的压得他喘不过气。他一边照顾女儿，一边抓耳挠腮地准备考试，时间一分一秒地过去，考试的日期已经迫在眉睫了。老秀才两难之下，只能将女儿送往寺庙静养，自己孤身前往考场。他心中挂念着女儿的病情，又担心自己考场失利，整夜辗转反侧，最终在科考中发挥失常，落榜而归。
Once upon a time, there was an old scholar who had lived a life of poverty and finally waited for the opportunity to take the imperial examination. However, on the eve of the examination, his daughter suddenly fell seriously ill with a high fever. The old scholar was extremely anxious. Looking at his daughter's painful expression and the approaching examination date, he felt as if a heavy stone was pressing on his chest. While taking care of his daughter, he nervously prepared for the examination. Time passed by every minute and every second; the examination date was imminent. The old scholar had no choice but to take his daughter to a temple to recuperate and went to the examination hall alone. Worried about his daughter's condition and the examination, he tossed and turned all night and eventually performed poorly in the examination and failed.
