In a small town lived a family called Li. The Li family was famous in the area for their intellectualism and love of reading. For generations, the members of the Li family had been connected to knowledge and possessed a rich library. Old Master Li was a scholar who had read many books and taught others to read and write. His son Li Ming grew up in this environment and developed a great love for reading. He passed the exam to become a “Xiucai” (a lower official title). The house of the Li family was always full of guests and the neighbors praised them as an example of intellectualism.
