战国时期，魏国有个名叫西门豹的人，他被任命为邺县令。上任后，他发现邺县百姓生活困苦，原因是当地有个恶霸地主，名为张氏，仗势欺人，对百姓予取予求，百姓敢怒不敢言。西门豹决心为民除害。他先了解张氏的恶行，然后在祭祀河神的仪式上，巧妙设计，将张氏及其同伙全部处死。从此，邺县百姓得以安居乐业，再无恶霸欺压。这个故事中张氏的所作所为就是典型的予取予求，反映了当时社会的不公平，以及西门豹为民请命的决心和智慧。西门豹为百姓解决了问题，也给后人留下了一个警示：不能仗势欺人，予取予求，而应该行公义，爱民如子。
During the Warring States period, there was a man named Ximen Bao from the State of Wei, appointed as the magistrate of Ye County. Upon assuming office, he found the people of Ye living in poverty due to a local bully landlord named Zhang who abused his power and demanded everything from the people. Ximen Bao decided to remove this evil. After fully understanding Zhang's misdeeds, he cleverly planned a scheme during a river god worship ceremony, successfully eliminating Zhang and his accomplices. From then on, the people of Ye lived in peace and prosperity, free from oppression. This story illustrates the unscrupulous nature of Zhang’s ‘taking and asking at will,’ reflecting the social injustice of that era and highlighting Ximen Bao’s determination and wisdom in serving the people.
