During the Tang Dynasty, Chang'an was the largest city in the world, with a population exceeding one million. The streets crisscrossed, houses lined up side by side, the population was dense, and the city was bustling with activity. Every morning, people would pour into the city from all directions, pursuing their respective occupations. Some were merchants, shuttling through the streets and alleys; others were hardworking farmers, carrying burdens to the market; and still others were students studying diligently in academies.
