Origin Story
北宋时期,著名的理学家程颐先生德高望重,门下弟子众多。一天,大雪纷飞,寒风凛冽。程门之外,一位名叫杨时(shí)的青年学生,冒着鹅毛大雪,来到程颐先生家门前。他见程颐先生正在屋内与客人谈话,不愿轻易打扰先生的谈话,便站在门外等候,直到雪深及膝,也不肯离去。程颐先生发现杨时站在门外,便急忙出来询问,杨时恭敬地向先生请教学问。程颐先生被他的尊师重教的精神所感动,于是就出来与杨时在雪地里讨论学问。后来,人们就用“程门度雪”这个故事来形容尊师重教,形容学生求学的认真和虔诚。
During the Northern Song Dynasty, the famous Neo-Confucian scholar Mr. Cheng Yi enjoyed high prestige and had many disciples. One day, heavy snow fell and the wind was biting. Outside Mr. Cheng's door, a young student named Yang Shi, braving the heavy snow, came to Mr. Cheng's door. He saw that Mr. Cheng Yi was talking to guests inside and did not want to disturb the conversation easily, so he waited outside until the snow was knee-deep before leaving. Mr. Cheng Yi discovered Yang Shi standing outside, he quickly came out to ask him, Yang Shi respectfully asked the teacher for instruction. Mr. Cheng Yi was moved by his respect for teachers and his devotion to learning, and he went out to discuss learning with Yang Shi in the snow. Later, people used the story of "Chengmen duxue" to describe respecting teachers and cherishing education, and to describe the seriousness and piety of a student in learning.
