Origin Story
During the Spring and Autumn period, Prince Chong'er of the Jin state was exiled for nineteen years and suffered many hardships. He experienced the pain of his country's destruction and his family's ruin, and he also experienced the bitterness of displacement. Along the way, the people around him constantly left, some dying of hunger and cold, and some fleeing because of rebellion. However, Chong'er always remained unyielding, leading a small number of loyal ministers and righteous men, overcoming countless difficulties and obstacles. He tasted the bitterness of wild herbs and slept on the cold ground. Living outdoors and enduring hunger, these became indelible memories in his life. Eventually, he returned to Jin, became a wise monarch—Duke Wen of Jin—and led Jin to prosperity and strength. This experience made him deeply understand the meaning of "difficulties and obstacles", and made him cherish the hard-won peace and tranquility. He often warned his ministers to always be prepared to face challenges and to be vigilant in times of peace, so that they could overcome new difficulties and challenges on the road to future development.
