Picking up others' wisdom
Explanation
It refers to picking up other people's words as one's own, lacking originality.
Origin Story
During the Jin Dynasty, the renowned military strategist Yin Hao led a northern campaign, but ultimately suffered defeat. His nephew, Han Kangbo, followed Yin Hao and learned military strategies, believing he had grasped the essence of Yin Hao’s teachings. He boasted about his knowledge everywhere. However, Yin Hao remarked: 'Han Kangbo hasn't even picked up my scraps of knowledge!' This illustrates that while Han Kangbo studied Yin Hao’s military thinking, he merely remained on the surface, failing to truly comprehend and assimilate it. He couldn’t innovate; he was merely parroting what he’d heard. This story warns against mere imitation and emphasizes the importance of original thought and comprehensive understanding in learning.
