Origin Story
从前，在一个小山村里，住着一位老秀才。他博览群书，学识渊博，但他有个毛病，就是过于依赖书本，缺乏独立思考的能力。一天，村里来了一个算命先生，他自称能预知未来。老秀才听闻后，便迫不及待地去求算。算命先生掐指一算，便说：“我看你最近要交好运，会有贵人相助，事业也会蒸蒸日上！”老秀才听了，心里十分高兴。但他并未多想，只是将算命先生的话，当作了真理一般，到处逢人便说：“我最近要交好运了，会有贵人相助！”村里的人对此说法，反应各不相同。有人表示祝福，也有人认为这是无稽之谈。老秀才全然不顾，依然人云亦云，对任何质疑置之不理。结果，所谓的“好运”并没有降临。老秀才反而因为盲目相信，错失了很多机会，他的生活也并没有因此变得更好。这件事，成为了村里人茶余饭后的笑谈。
Once upon a time, in a small mountain village, there lived an old scholar. He was well-read and knowledgeable, but he had a flaw: he relied too much on books and lacked the ability to think independently. One day, a fortune teller came to the village, claiming to be able to foresee the future. After hearing this, the old scholar eagerly went to seek a fortune. The fortune teller calculated with his fingers and said, “I see that you are about to have good fortune; noble people will help you, and your career will flourish!” The old scholar was very happy. But he didn't think much about it, simply taking the fortune teller’s words as the truth, and telling everyone he met, “I'm about to have good fortune, and noble people will help me!” The villagers reacted differently to this statement. Some offered their blessings, while others thought it was nonsense. The old scholar completely disregarded this, still echoing others, and ignoring any doubts. As a result, the so-called “good fortune” never came. The old scholar, instead, missed many opportunities because of his blind faith, and his life did not improve because of it. This incident became a topic of laughter after meals in the village.
