话说唐朝时期，有个贪官污吏叫李员外，他鱼肉百姓，横征暴敛，民怨沸腾。县令张大人是一位刚正不阿的好官，他决心查办李员外。李员外得知后，便四处活动，贿赂张大人的师爷，让他为其开脱罪责。师爷收受贿赂后，便开始颠倒是非，在张大人面前为李员外辩护，夸赞李员外为官清廉，爱民如子，并把百姓的控诉说成是诬告陷害。张大人起初也有些动摇，但经过仔细调查，了解到李员外贪赃枉法的事实后，终于识破了师爷的诡计，将李员外绳之以法，并将师爷也一同治罪。从此，李员外在百姓眼中成为了反面教材，而张大人则受到百姓的爱戴。这个故事告诉我们，正义终将战胜邪恶，颠倒是非者终将受到惩罚。
Once upon a time, in ancient China, there was a corrupt official named Li who oppressed the people and collected heavy taxes, causing widespread resentment. Zhang, the upright magistrate, was determined to investigate Li. Li, fearing exposure, bribed Zhang’s clerk to cover up his crimes. The bribed clerk then began to distort the truth, defending Li before Zhang, praising him as a kind and honest official, and portraying the people’s complaints as false accusations. Zhang initially hesitated, but after thorough investigation and discovering Li’s corruption, he exposed the clerk’s deception, brought Li to justice, and punished the clerk as well. Li became a cautionary tale amongst the people, while Zhang was beloved for his righteousness. The story reminds us that justice prevails, and those who twist the truth will ultimately be punished.
