Origin Story
战国时期，赵国和燕国为了争夺土地爆发战争。燕国派出了著名的将领乐毅，乐毅用兵如神，接连攻破赵国多个城池。赵王昏庸，大臣们为了各自的利益，互相倾轧，互相攻击，混淆是非，扰乱朝纲。为了保住自己的权力和地位，一些大臣甚至对乐毅的军事才能和忠诚度提出质疑，散布谣言，使赵王对乐毅产生了怀疑。赵王被奸臣蒙蔽，听信谗言，最终错失了良机，导致赵国灭亡。
During the Warring States period, the state of Zhao and the state of Yan fought a war over land. Yan sent its famous general Le Yi, who was a brilliant strategist and conquered many cities of Zhao one after another. The king of Zhao was incompetent and his ministers, for their own interests, fought with each other, confusing right and wrong and disrupting the court. In order to maintain their power and status, some ministers even questioned Le Yi's military talents and loyalty, spreading rumors and causing the king of Zhao to doubt him. The king of Zhao was deceived by the villains and, believing the rumors, eventually missed a good opportunity, resulting in the destruction of the state of Zhao.
Usage
多用于贬义，指故意混淆是非曲直，扰乱视听。
Mostly used in a derogatory sense, to deliberately confuse right and wrong, to muddle the waters.
