开天辟地 kāi tiān pì dì Create heaven and earth

Explanation

Kai Tian Pi Di is a Chinese idiom that refers to the ancient mythological legend of Pangu who created heaven and earth, marking the beginning of human history. Later, it was used to describe unprecedented, never-before-seen events.

Origin Story

It is said that in the beginning of time, the universe was a chaotic, giant egg in which Pangu lived. He swung his giant axe and split the chaotic universe, causing the light Qi to rise up into heaven and the heavy Qi to sink down to form the earth. To support heaven and earth, Pangu stood with heaven on his head and earth on his feet, pressing up and down non-stop. Thus, Pangu worked tirelessly for 18,000 years, pushing heaven and earth further and further apart. Finally, Pangu was exhausted and fell to the ground, transforming into all things in the world. His head became mountains, his eyes became the sun and moon, his limbs became the four cardinal directions, his flesh and blood became soil, his tendons became rivers, his hair became flowers, grass and trees ... This is the world we see today.
