杜绝后患是指彻底消除以后可能产生的祸患，避免将来发生不好的事情。

古代有一位贤明的君主，他治理国家非常英明，深得百姓的爱戴。可是，他一直担心自己死后，国家会发生动乱。于是，他召集了大臣们，商议如何杜绝后患。一位老臣说：“陛下，我们应该培养有能力的继承人，并选拔贤能的大臣辅佐他，这样才能保证国家安定。”君主听了非常赞同，于是他开始精心挑选继承人，并培养他的治国能力。他还亲自选拔了一批德才兼备的大臣，并把自己的治国经验传授给他们。君主去世后，他的继承人继承了父亲的遗志，辅佐贤能的大臣，继续治理国家，国家依然繁荣昌盛。从此，国家安定，再也没有出现大的动乱。
