从前，在一个繁华的城市里，住着一位名叫王富贵的富商。王富贵家财万贯，却为人十分吝啬。一天，王富贵听说城外有一位名医，医术高超，能治百病。于是，王富贵便带着重金前去求医。名医听说了王富贵的事情，便答应为他治病。但是，名医开出的药方却让王富贵大吃一惊，因为其中一味药是生长在深山老林里的千年灵芝，十分稀有昂贵。王富贵听到药价，顿时皱起了眉头，心想：“这药太贵了，我可舍不得花这么多钱！”于是，他便对名医说：“大夫，您开的这药太贵了，我实在买不起。您能不能换一种便宜点的药方呢？”名医听了王富贵的请求，无奈地摇了摇头说：“这药方是我精心研究出来的，每一味药都不可或缺，如果换了别的药，就无法达到治疗的效果了。王富贵，您知道我医术高明，但您也知道灵芝很贵，您现在却说买不起，这不是强人所难吗？”王富贵听到名医的话，脸上涨得通红，最后还是乖乖地付了药钱，因为他也知道，名医说的的确是实话。
