五代时期，后唐明宗李嗣源时期，宰相冯道以其机智幽默而闻名于朝野。一次，冯道与同僚和凝在中书省办公。和凝见冯道穿戴一新，便好奇地问起新鞋的价钱。冯道故意卖关子，指着左脚说：“这双鞋九百文钱。”和凝一听，马上呵斥下属，说冯道贪污了九百文钱。冯道不慌不忙地又指着右脚说：“这双鞋也是九百文钱！”此话一出，在场的官员们全都哄堂大笑起来，既缓解了尴尬，又彰显了冯道的智慧和幽默。这件趣事在朝中广为流传，也体现了冯道处事圆滑，化解矛盾的能力。他利用巧妙的语言和幽默感，将一场可能升级的冲突轻松化解，赢得了大家的赞赏。此事也成为了后世茶余饭后津津乐道的佳话，甚至被编入历史故事，成为经典的案例，用于说明机智应对、巧妙化解冲突的重要性。

During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, Feng Dao, a prime minister during the reign of Emperor Mingzong of Later Tang, was known for his wit and humor. Once, while working in the Zhongshu Sheng (the central government office) with his colleague He Ning, He noticed Feng Dao's new attire and curiously asked about the price of his new shoes. Feng Dao, playing coy, pointed to his left foot and said, "These cost nine hundred wen." He Ning immediately rebuked his subordinates, accusing Feng Dao of embezzling nine hundred wen. Feng Dao calmly pointed to his right foot and said, "These also cost nine hundred wen!" At this remark, all the officials present erupted in laughter. This anecdote showcases Feng Dao's ability to deftly navigate potentially tense situations with wit and humor. The story of his clever response continues to be told, illustrating the importance of using wit and humor to resolve conflicts, and continues to serve as a classic example of skillfully defusing tense situations.
