In the late Tang Dynasty, Huang Chao's rebel army broke into Chang'an, killing civilians and looting property. For a time, Chang'an was in chaos. After the war, the once prosperous Chang'an was now in ruins. Houses collapsed, streets were dilapidated, and the once magnificent palaces were reduced to rubble. The streets that were once bustling with traffic were now deserted, and the once lively markets were deserted. Nothing remained. The prosperous Chang'an was now just ruins. Some people who once lived here fled to other places, some died in the war, and some were killed by the rebel army. The former prosperity was gone, replaced by desolation.
