话说大禹治水时期，天下洪水泛滥，百姓流离失所。大禹为了尽快治好水患，决定选拔贤能之士，一起治理这滔天洪水。他四处奔走，考察各地人才，无论出身高低，只要有治理水患的才能，他都毫不犹豫地重用。其中一位名叫益的官员，虽然出身平凡，但他勤奋好学，对水利工程十分精通。大禹对他的才能非常欣赏，将他提升为治水官员。益不负众望，凭借自己的聪明才智和丰富的经验，成功地治理了许多地方的水患。而另一位出身贵族，却只是空有虚名，整日游手好闲的官员，则被大禹毫不留情地撤职了。正是因为大禹的选贤举能，最终带领众人战胜了洪水，解救了无数百姓。从此以后，“选贤举能”便成为了一种治国安邦的理念，鼓励人们要重视人才，要广纳贤才，要以才能为标准选拔人才，为国家做出贡献。

If someone had the ability to control floods, he would employ them without hesitation. One such official, named Yi, was from a humble background, but he was diligent and knowledgeable in water engineering. Yu was impressed by his abilities and promoted him. Yi lived up to expectations, using his skills and experience to successfully control floods in many areas. Another official, from a noble family, was lazy and lacked actual skills. Yu dismissed him without hesitation. Thanks to Yu's selection of talented people, they were able to conquer the floods, rescuing countless people. From then on, “selecting and appointing capable people” became a governing principle, encouraging the importance of talent, and the selection of people based on ability.
