Origin Story

In the early years of the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu Liu Bang sent his emissary Lu Jia to Nanyue to persuade King Zhao Tuo to submit to the Han Dynasty. Although Zhao Tuo was originally from Central China, he had lived in Nanyue for a long time and declared himself king, knowing little about the Han Dynasty. Lu Jia then detailed the Han Dynasty's powerful military, vast territory, and abundant resources. He vividly described the prosperity of the Han Dynasty and its benevolent governance. As Zhao Tuo listened to Lu Jia recount these things he'd never heard before, it was as if a new world had opened up to him; he gained a completely new understanding of the Han Dynasty's power and prosperity. Eventually, Zhao Tuo was moved by Lu Jia's words and decided to submit to the Han Dynasty. This story embodies the meaning of "hearing what one has never heard before": hearing things one has never heard, which changes people's understanding and ideas. Lu Jia cleverly used the strategy of "hearing what one has never heard before", successfully completing his diplomatic mission, and causing Nanyue to submit to the Han Dynasty. This laid the foundation for the unification of the Western Han Dynasty.
