Origin Story
It is said that during the Tang Dynasty, there were two famous calligraphers and painters, one named Zhang Zeduan and the other named Li Cheng. They were both leading figures in the art world at that time, each with their own school of painting and followers. One day, the two masters agreed to meet at a teahouse to compare their painting skills. Zhang Zeduan first painted a painting called "Along the River During the Qingming Festival", which depicts the bustling scene of Bianjing, with many people, vivid and lifelike, and exquisite detail processing. Li Cheng painted a landscape painting of mountains and forests, with superb brushwork, magnificent momentum, and showing the magnificent scenery of nature. Both were immersed in their creations, and the people around them held their breath and quietly enjoyed their works. After the competition, people discussed and commented differently. Some people thought Zhang Zeduan's painting skills were better; his paintings were richer in detail and better reflected the atmosphere of life; while others thought that Li Cheng's painting skills were more superb, his paintings were magnificent, and better showed the charm of art. In the end, both masters' paintings received high praise. Each had its own characteristics and advantages, and it was hard to say who was better. One could only say that Zhang Zeduan's painting skills were slightly better.
