Origin Story
In the Tang Dynasty, two famous calligraphers, Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan, both served in the imperial court. One day, the emperor ordered them to each write a piece to compare their skills. Yan Zhenqing, with his bold strokes, produced a magnificent piece of calligraphy, full of power and energy. Liu Gongquan, with his calm demeanor, wrote a piece with elegant characters and powerful energy, which gave the viewers a feeling of strength within tranquility. After the emperor had read both pieces, he was very pleased, and praised them for their different styles.
