The Wei army was strong, and the Shu army was at a disadvantage. Zhuge Liang knew that Sima Yi, the commander of the Wei army, was cunning, so he decided to use a strategy. He deliberately showed weakness to lure the Wei army into a false sense of security, then launched a fierce attack at a critical moment. Sima Yi fell for the trap, and the Shu army won a great victory. After the battle, someone asked Zhuge Liang why he could predict the enemy’s actions so accurately. Zhuge Liang smiled slightly and said, “I was just one step ahead.” This story shows Zhuge Liang’s superb strategic vision, excellent leadership, and his ability to make accurate judgments at critical moments. He was able to anticipate Sima Yi’s actions and prepare in advance, and that’s the essence of “being one step ahead”.
