Explanation
Refers to words or actions that are not sincere but are hypocritical and artificial.
Origin Story
Once upon a time, there was an old woman living in a village who always showed kindness to her neighbors, sending them homegrown vegetables and homemade cakes during holidays. Everyone thought she was kind and helpful. However, one day, a fortune teller came to the village and saw that the old woman was not sincere; she was only trying to win others' favor and gain something. The fortune teller told everyone that the old woman was insincere. She was kind on the surface, but her heart was full of calculation. Villagers began to observe the old woman carefully. They found that some of her actions made people suspicious. For example, the things she sent, though seemed plentiful, were the things that others did not want or were about to go bad; her attitude towards others changed according to people's status and wealth. Eventually, the old woman's hypocrisy was exposed, and the villagers no longer trusted her. This story tells us that hypocrisy will eventually be discovered, and sincerity is the long-term solution.
