In ancient China, there was a magistrate named Li known for his integrity. But in one case, he bent the law for personal gain. A wealthy merchant's son had injured a poor scholar in an altercation. The law dictated severe punishment for the merchant's son, but the merchant bribed Magistrate Li to be lenient. Li, tempted by the bribe, disregarded the truth, and unjustly convicted the scholar of false accusation, while the merchant's son received a light sentence. This sparked public outrage, and many people petitioned against Li. The emperor was furious and ordered a thorough investigation. Li was eventually dismissed from his post and punished.
