Origin Story
During the Tang Dynasty, a county magistrate was known for believing rumors and making judgments based on feelings rather than evidence. One day, someone reported that Zhang San from the neighboring village had stolen Li Si's chicken. The magistrate, without any evidence, ordered Zhang San's arrest. Zhang San pleaded his innocence, but the magistrate said, "I've always judged cases based on my gut feeling, not evidence!" Zhang San was wrongly imprisoned. When the emperor heard about this, he was furious and sent an inspector to investigate. The inspector found that Zhang San was innocent, and the magistrate's judgment was entirely unfounded and based on mere conjecture. The emperor was enraged, dismissed the magistrate, and decreed that all future cases must have solid evidence before a judgment could be made.
