During the Warring States period in ancient China, the seven kingdoms were engaged in a fierce struggle for dominance, leading to widespread unrest. In a remote small state, an ambitious general named Li Kui secretly plotted to seize power. Using his military strength and influence within the army, he bribed numerous officials and soldiers, forming factions within the court and spreading rumors to discredit his rivals. When the time was ripe, Li Kui launched a coup, eliminating opposing ministers and taking control of the palace and the army. He ultimately usurped power, declared himself king, and established his own dynasty. However, his reign was short-lived. His cruel rule led to widespread resentment, and he was soon overthrown, his dynasty collapsing with him. This story serves as a warning against the usurpation of power, demonstrating that such actions are not only immoral and illegal but also ultimately lead to failure and punishment.
