Origin Story

During the Tang Dynasty, there was a poet named Li Bai. He received an invitation from the emperor to write a poem celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. Li Bai attached great importance to this opportunity and worked day and night on his poem, fearing that he would not write well and disappoint the emperor. To ensure the quality of his work, he not only repeatedly refined it himself but also invited many fellow poets to help. The whole process was tense and orderly, with lights burning all night in his house and drums beating constantly. It was like a tightly-wound drum, filled with tension and anticipation. Finally, Li Bai delivered a masterpiece that delighted the emperor. Since then, “jin luo mi gu” has been used to describe the well-prepared and tense atmosphere before a major event.
