Origin Story
During the late Ming Dynasty, there was a poor scholar named Wang Xiaoer who opened a small bookstore in the city to make a living. One day, a rich young man in gorgeous clothes came to the bookstore and pointed to an ancient book on the shelf, saying he wanted to buy it. Wang Xiaoer carefully flipped through the book and found it was a unique copy, very precious, so he carefully quoted the price to the young man. The young man was furious and said loudly, “You bookstore owner, you are simply asking for an outrageous price. How much do you want? Give me a reasonable price!” Wang Xiaoer was also angry and told the young man the origin of the book and its value in detail. The young man then understood that Wang Xiaoer was not asking for an outrageous price, but that the book was indeed precious. So, he paid the price with satisfaction and bought the book.
