Origin Story

In the Tang Dynasty, there was a talented poet named Li Bai. One day, he was invited to a grand banquet. During the banquet, many scholars showed off their talents, reciting poems and composing verses. A young poet who called himself the "Poetry Immortal" proudly recited a long poem he had just created. After the poem, everyone praised him, but Li Bai remained silent, quietly sipping his wine. Someone asked him puzzledly, "Mr. Li Bai, what do you think of this poem?" Li Bai smiled slightly and said, "Not a single word." These words surprised everyone. It turned out that Li Bai thought that although the poem had beautiful words, it lacked substance and was superficial. He cleverly expressed his disapproval with "Not a single word", which also reflected his high standards for poetry creation. Since then, "Not a single word" has become a commonly used idiom, used to describe an indifferent attitude or to express opposition or disapproval through silence.
