Origin Story
During the Qing Dynasty, a corrupt official named Zhang, in order to consolidate his power, implemented strict laws and punishments in his jurisdiction. He set up various cruel tortures, and the slightest mistake would be severely punished. The people lived in constant fear and suffering. Although Zhang maintained a superficial order, he caused widespread resentment and fear. Eventually, a serious peasant uprising broke out, Zhang was overthrown, and the strict laws and punishments were abolished. This story tells us that violence only begets violence, and ultimately one reaps what one sows. Only by governing with virtue can lasting peace be achieved.
