Origin Story

It is said that during the Warring States period, there was a scholar named Su Qin who was well-read and full of wisdom but always unsuccessful. He recommended his governing strategies to many feudal states, but was repeatedly rejected and ignored. His friend Zhang Yi couldn't bear to watch it anymore and advised him: “Brother Su, you spend all day reading behind closed doors, only capable of armchair strategizing without understanding the actual situation. How can you gain recognition? The art of governance lies in practice, not in empty talk of theories!” After hearing this, Su Qin suddenly realized. He put down his books and began to travel around, investigating local customs, understanding the suffering of the people, and gradually improving his governing strategies. After many years of effort, he finally gained the favor of the king of the Yan state, was appointed as prime minister, and finally changed the fate of the Yan state through his own ability and efforts. This story shows that it doesn't work to only talk about theories and work in isolation; one must consider the actual circumstances and gain true knowledge through practice.
