Once upon a time, in a small mountain village, there lived an old farmer and his son. The old farmer had worked hard all year to cultivate his land, and harvest time was approaching when a rare and violent storm suddenly struck. After the storm, almost all of the old farmer's crops were destroyed. The crops of other villagers were also damaged to varying degrees. At this time, the old farmer's neighbor, a man named Li Lao'er, came over and said to the old farmer, “Your crops have all been destroyed. You must have offended the mountain god, so he sent the storm to punish you!” The old farmer was very unconvinced. He retorted, “This storm was a natural disaster that no one could have predicted. How can it be my fault? Besides, the crops of other villagers have also been damaged. Did they all offend the mountain god too?” However, Li Lao'er bit back and said, “Your crops were more severely damaged than others’. Clearly, you offended the mountain god, so the punishment was heavier!” The old farmer was so angry that he was speechless and could only silently clean up the mess. The story spread throughout the village, and everyone said that Li Lao'er was too cunning and too fond of stirring up trouble.
