话说古代有个书生，名叫张三，他博学多才，却有个反复无常的毛病。一日，他与好友李四约定去城外踏青，张三早上兴致勃勃地准备出门，却突然改变主意，说要在家研读经书。李四等了他半天，张三又说要出门赏花，然后又说要作画，如此反复几次，最终两人都没能成行，李四对张三的反复无常感到十分无奈。后来，张三也因自己的反复无常错过了许多良机，最终一事无成。这便是“反复无常”的真实写照，提醒人们要言行一致，持之以恒。
Once upon a time, there was a scholar named Zhang San. He was knowledgeable and talented, but had a fickle nature. One day, he made an appointment with his friend Li Si to go for a spring outing outside the city. Zhang San enthusiastically prepared to go out in the morning, but suddenly changed his mind, saying he wanted to stay home and study scriptures. Li Si waited for him for half a day, then Zhang San said he wanted to go out to enjoy flowers, and then said he wanted to paint, repeating this several times. In the end, neither of them went. Li Si felt very helpless about Zhang San's fickleness. Later, Zhang San also missed many opportunities because of his fickle nature, and ultimately accomplished nothing. This is a true portrayal of "fickleness," reminding people to be consistent in their words and deeds and to persevere.
