Origin Story

It is said that during the Tang Dynasty, there was a wealthy young man named Li Ming in Chang'an City. He possessed a vast fortune but spent his days indulging in pleasure. He frequented taverns and entertainment venues, consorted with singers and dancers, squandered money, and led a dissolute life. One day, in the Drunken Immortal Pavilion, Li Ming was enjoying himself with a group of friends. After several rounds of drinking, Li Ming, his eyes hazy with intoxication, pointed to the blooming peony flowers outside the window and recited a poem: ‘Wealth and glory are like spring flowers; today we have wine, so let us drink today.’ His friends echoed his sentiments, and the tavern was filled with the extravagant and decadent atmosphere of revelry. However, this good fortune was short-lived. The An Lushan Rebellion broke out, and Li Ming's family fell into ruin, his past wealth and glory vanished. He ended up on the street, ragged and destitute, his former friends who had reveled with him having long since scattered, leaving him alone and neglected. Li Ming then realized that seeking pleasure was not the true meaning of life, and true happiness doesn't lie in extravagance and indulgence, but in inner peace and contentment.
