Origin Story
In a small town in southern China, lived a scholar named Li Ming and a beautiful girl named Zhao Lan. They had known each other since childhood and were inseparable. However, their personalities were very different. Li Ming was calm, diligent, and studious; Zhao Lan was lively, playful, and carefree. They often quarreled over trivial matters, yet they also inadvertently showed their affection for each other. Once, Li Ming went to the capital to take the imperial examinations. Zhao Lan sewed clothes for him and could not sleep at night. Before he left, Li Ming gave Zhao Lan his treasured jade pendant, and Zhao Lan gave him a hand-embroidered sachet. In the capital, Li Ming missed Zhao Lan and often wrote letters to her, telling her about his life and studies. Zhao Lan, although complaining about Li Ming's lengthy letters on the surface, was filled with sweetness in her heart. Three years later, Li Ming passed the examinations with flying colors and became a high-ranking official. He immediately rushed back south to marry his beautiful Zhao Lan. From then on, they lived happily together, although they still quarreled over trivial matters, they cherished each other even more. Their love story is still told in the town, and people call them "happy enemies".
