It is said that in ancient times, there was a scholar named Li Qing. His family was poor, but he was honest and self-respecting. He knew very well that in that corrupt society, many people used all means to enrich themselves with petty gains and colluded with them. But he always adhered to his principles, neither influenced by power nor by money. Even when his life was difficult, he preferred to be poor rather than collude with corrupt officials. He often admonished himself: To keep oneself pure and innocent, to maintain inner peace, and to live a righteous life. Once, the county magistrate sent people to collect taxes and deliberately made things difficult for the people. Many people, unable to bear the pressure, had to send gifts to bribe the officials. Although Li Qing's family was poor, he resolutely refused to send gifts. The county magistrate became furious and threw him into prison. In prison, Li Qing was not intimidated; he still maintained his noble character and insisted on his principles. Finally, he was released from prison. People praised his noble character of self-respect and regarded him as a role model. Li Qing's story has been passed down to this day and has become a model for people, encouraging them to maintain their purity in the face of various temptations, not to collude with evil forces, and to be an upright gentleman.
