Origin Story
It is said that Bai Juyi, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, loved Xiāngshān Mountain and often went there for outings. One day, he came to Xiāngshān Temple, and everything in the temple refreshed him. Xiāngshān Temple is built into the mountains, with towering ancient trees, clear springs and flowing water, beautiful scenery, and incense and Buddhist sounds in the temple. Bai Juyi was deeply attracted by the sight before him and wrote the famous “Record of the Renovation of Xiāngshān Temple”. In the article, he vividly describes the scenery of Xiāngshān Temple and the life of the monks in the temple, and between the lines shows his love for Xiāngshān Temple. This article also gave later generations a deeper understanding of Xiāngshān Temple. And the idiom “ěrmù yīxīn”, which has been passed down since then, has become a commonly used word to describe new things.
