Explanation
A metaphor for someone who, after achieving their goal, forgets and abandons those who helped them.
Origin Story
During the retreat of Liu Bei in the Battle of Changbanpo, he was chased by Cao Cao's troops. Zhao Yun, a loyal general, single-handedly rescued Liu Bei's wife and child and brought them to safety. Later, to avoid further pursuit, Liu Bei had the Changban Bridge destroyed. While this is an example of 'burning bridges after crossing', Liu Bei's action was necessary for strategic reasons, in order to avoid further losses and suffering.
