In ancient China's imperial examinations, many candidates would often study day and night to succeed. On a cold winter night, a candidate named Li Bai, in order to catch up on his last-minute review before the exam, lit an oil lamp and buried his head in his books. Outside, the cold wind howled, but inside, it was as warm as spring—the flame of Li Bai's diligent study was burning. He flipped through thick books, carefully studying every word, every phrase, every sentence. He forgot time, he forgot fatigue, he forgot the cold; in his heart was only the exam, only his dreams. When the first rays of sunlight shone through the window, Li Bai realized that he had been studying all night. He rubbed his sore eyes, stretched, and smiled with satisfaction. He knew that he had prepared well for the exam, and that he would surely succeed.
