Legend has it that Yan Zhenqing, a great calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty, once visited a friend. In his friend's living room, there was an old zither. Yan Zhenqing saw the zither and thought of his own experiences learning to play the zither in his childhood. So he picked up a pen and wrote a poem on paper expressing his love for music. When he was done, his friend asked him: “Mr. Yan, you wrote this poem so fast, did you already memorize it?” Yan Zhenqing smiled and said: “I have loved calligraphy since I was a child, so I write easily and quickly.” The friend was impressed by Yan Zhenqing's skills in calligraphy.
