In the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Shu Han, led numerous military campaigns against Cao Wei, hoping to restore the Han Dynasty. The Wei state, however, was a powerful adversary, and Shu’s armies suffered repeated defeats. Simultaneously, Wei also faced numerous challenges from Wu and Nanman, necessitating campaigns both east and west to defend their territories. This period of constant warfare, and the struggle for power, ultimately led to the three-kingdom stalemate.
