It is a metaphor for deliberately picking on other people's shortcomings and looking for mistakes.

Origin Story

Once upon a time, there was a fastidious craftsman. He made a beautiful work of art, striving for perfection in every detail. But when he finished his work, he still nitpicked, using a magnifying glass to carefully look for flaws, even the smallest ones, and he had to pick them out. Finally, because he demanded too much perfection, he delayed the delivery of the work and lost many potential customers. In the end, he became an unknown craftsman and did not achieve the success he deserved.
