就事论事 to discuss matters objectively
Explanation
“Jiushi lunshi” is a Chinese idiom that means to discuss and judge things only on their merits, without personal emotions or other factors. It emphasizes an objective, fair, and rational view of things.
Origin Story
In Tang Dynasty, there was a poet named Li Bai and another named Du Fu. Du Fu gave Li Bai's poetry very high praise, but Li Bai only gave Du Fu's poetry an average rating. Therefore, the two men had a discussion about their own poems. Li Bai said that his poems were full of romantic feelings and imagination. Du Fu said, although your poems are good, they are too gorgeous and lack real life. Li Bai smiled lightly and said: 'It seems that we should still discuss things in an objective manner, and don't talk about things outside poetry.'
