Origin Story
During the Tang Dynasty, there was a famous poet named Li Bai, who was extremely talented but also arrogant and undisciplined. Once, he attended a grand banquet in Chang'an, where he got drunk, took off his shoes, danced wildly, and shouted loudly, ignoring everyone around him. The other guests were shocked and criticized him for his rude behavior. However, Li Bai didn't care and even shamelessly justified his actions by saying he was expressing his poetic inspiration. People were amused by his shameless behavior, but no one dared to say anything because Li Bai was very famous. Since then, the expression "恬不知耻" has been used to describe people who are shameless.
