In the Tang Dynasty, the border areas were frequently plagued by wars that plunged the people into misery. One year, a sudden epidemic swept through the entire border region, countless people fell ill and died, and villages became ghost towns. The once lively markets became silent and desolate, and cries mingled with wails, breaking one's heart. The epidemic claimed countless lives and left only devastation and endless sorrow.
