Origin Story
Once upon a time, in a remote village, lived a highly skilled carpenter. He was renowned for his exquisite craftsmanship, and many people came from far and wide to seek his help in crafting beautiful furniture. However, this carpenter possessed a peculiar temperament. He was only willing to work for those he deemed worthy, while those who approached him with arrogance and disrespect were often unceremoniously turned away. One day, a wealthy merchant arrived at the carpenter's house, hoping to commission a valuable set of rosewood furniture. The merchant, dressed in fine clothes and with an air of self-importance, spoke with a condescending and haughty tone. He did not regard the carpenter with any respect, merely giving orders for the carpenter to produce the furniture to his exact specifications. After listening quietly, the carpenter calmly replied, "I'm sorry, I cannot make this furniture for you." The merchant was taken aback, shocked to find himself rejected. Furious, he demanded an explanation, but the carpenter simply replied, "I respect every customer, but I respect myself even more. Your attitude displeases me, therefore I decline to work for you." The merchant left in a huff. Shortly thereafter, a young farmer came to the carpenter's house. He was simply dressed, yet his demeanor was humble and polite. He clearly explained the type of furniture he required, and listened attentively to the carpenter's suggestions. The carpenter was touched by his sincerity and readily agreed to fulfill his request, crafting a sturdy set of furniture for the honest farmer. This story reminds us that in all our interactions, we must show respect for others, as well as for ourselves. Only in this way can we earn the respect of others and achieve success.
