Origin Story
话说有一位秀才，去参加科举考试。结果，他名落孙山，很不服气。他找到主考官，振振有辞地申诉自己的文章有多么优秀，考官的评判有多么不公正。他列举了种种理由，说得口若悬河，滔滔不绝。然而，主考官只是静静地听着，并不理会他的辩解。最后，主考官淡淡地说：‘你的文章确实不错，但和今年考中的其他文章相比，还是差了一点火候。’秀才听了，哑口无言，他知道自己这次是理屈词穷了。
A scholar took the imperial examination, but failed and was very upset. He went to see the examination committee and argued persuasively that his work was excellent and the evaluation was unfair. He cited numerous reasons and spoke endlessly. However, the examination committee simply listened without addressing his objections. Finally, the chairman calmly said: “Your work is good, but compared to the other successful works, it lacks something.” The scholar was speechless and had to accept his defeat.
