Origin Story
During the Spring and Autumn period, a dispute arose between the states of Qi and Lu. The Duke of Qi, aiming to dominate the other feudal lords, learned that Lu had suffered a severe drought, leaving its treasury empty and its people impoverished. Believing Lu to be weak and easy to conquer, he led his troops to attack. The Duke of Lu sent his minister, Zhan Xi, to persuade the Duke of Qi to withdraw. Zhan Xi arrived at the Qi army camp and, facing the menacing Qi forces, showed no fear. He addressed the Duke of Qi, saying, "Your Majesty, though Lu is currently weak, we remain confident. Our confidence rests on the legacy of our past rulers and the foundation built by our ancestors—this is the cornerstone of our state."
