In 1945, Japan's mainland suffered intensive bombing raids from the powerful air force of the United States. From that day on, for several days, groups of American B-29 bombers relentlessly bombed major Japanese cities day and night. Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and other cities became ruins, countless civilians were killed and injured, and city buildings were razed to the ground.
