比喻在很窄的路上相遇，没有地方可让。后多用来指仇人相见，彼此都不肯轻易放过。

从前，在一个小山村里，住着一位名叫阿牛的樵夫。他为人老实善良，每天清晨便上山砍柴。一天，阿牛照例上山砍柴，走着走着，他发现前面一条小路，两旁都是茂密的树林，路面狭窄，只能容一人通过。这时，他听到身后传来马蹄声，阿牛回头一看，只见一位身穿锦衣的富家公子正策马而来。两人狭路相逢，避无可避。阿牛心想，我应该让路，可是富家公子却丝毫没有减速的意思，反而加快了速度，直接向阿牛冲来。阿牛吓得大喊一声，连忙闪到路旁，才躲过了被撞的危险。富家公子却丝毫没有歉意，反而破口大骂，阿牛没有理睬他，继续砍柴。富家公子走了之后，阿牛继续砍柴，后来，他慢慢地明白了，人生的道路上，总会遇到一些不如意的事情，但我们应该保持自己的初心，不与他人争执，这样才能活得更加轻松自在。
