祸从天降 misfortune from heaven
Explanation
Refers to suddenly encountering an unexpected disaster.
Origin Story
During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Yi Zong's daughter, Princess Tongchang, unfortunately passed away from illness, leaving the emperor heartbroken. Han Zongzhao and Kang Zhongyin, the imperial physicians responsible for the princess's medical care, along with over 300 members of their families, were imprisoned by Emperor Yi Zong on charges of "ineffective treatment." Prime Minister Liu Zhan, witnessing this injustice, submitted a petition, arguing that Han and Kang had done their best, and implicating their families was wrong and a misfortune from heaven. While Emperor Yi Zong accepted Liu Zhan's advice, he didn't fully pardon Han and Kang, only demoting them.
