话说古代有一位著名的工匠，他受命建造一座宏伟的宫殿。宫殿的设计图纸异常复杂，包含了无数的细节和部件。工匠深知，如果逐一处理每一个细节，将会耗费大量的时间和精力，而且容易出现错误。于是，他仔细研究图纸，发现了整个宫殿建筑的中心支点——一根巨大的梁柱。他意识到，只要这根梁柱搭建稳固，其他的部分就能顺利地连接起来。于是，他集中精力，先建造这根梁柱。梁柱搭建完成后，其他的部分仿佛水到渠成，整个宫殿的建造工作进展顺利，最终提前完工，质量也得到了保证。这便是“纲举目张”的生动体现，抓住关键，就能带动全局。
Once upon a time, in ancient China, a renowned craftsman was commissioned to build a magnificent palace. The blueprints were incredibly intricate, detailing countless components and elements. Instead, he meticulously studied the blueprints and identified the central support of the entire structure—a massive beam. He realized that by ensuring this beam was securely placed, the rest of the palace would fall into place seamlessly. Focusing his efforts on this crucial beam, he successfully erected it. Once completed, other construction progressed smoothly and naturally, resulting in the palace’s timely and high-quality completion. This perfectly illustrates “Gāng jǔ mù zhāng”: by grasping the crucial element, the entirety is propelled forward.
